New Delhi: The Delhi police identified the body of 25-year-old ragpicker found in a park near Shanti Van area on May 14.

The police also questioned around 4,500 persons and finally arrested two persons for murdering her.

The accused were identified as Rahul Kumar alias Mohd. Salman (22) and Banti alias Mukesh Paswan (23),  said the police on Friday.

According to the police, on May 14 around 7.45am, a PCR call was received about an unidentified female body lying in the park. Her head was tried to be smashed beyond recognition and the deceased was partially clad. The deceased was in her late 20’s, the police said. Two blood-stained stones were found lying near the body.

Since there were no witnesses, it was initially difficult to identify the body as well as the accused. Subsequently, around 4,500 persons were questioned to get a clue in the case, but to no avail, the police said.

The police identified the deceased as a rag picker, who resided near Fawara Chowk, Chandni Chowk. She was frequently seen in the company of Salman whose name she had tattooed on her right arm.

The police said after committing the murder, the accused had tried to crush the head of the deceased to conceal her identity. Soon after committing the crime, Salman and his friend had disappeared.

When the police came to know that Salman visited Chandni Chowk area, they laid a trap for him and arrested im.  During interrogation, he refused to have committed the crime and tried to mislead the police. He later accepted his involvement in the crime and said that his friend, Mukesh, to be the co-accused. At his instance, he was also arrested.
