New Delhi: Ngurang Reena, a 25-year-old woman from Arunachal Pradesh, had a nightmarish experience at a hotel on June 18 where racist comments were allegedly passed at her and three men in inebriated condition asked her “rate”.

The incident came to light when the complainant took to social media networking site Facebook and narrated the entire chain of sequence.

The complainant said that the ordeal began when she, along with her friends, was getting out of the lift at the second floor of the hotel. Ms Reena said, “I am a 25-year-old girl from Arunachal Pradesh and I have been living in Delhi for quite some time now. On 18 June, I had gone to meet my friends at a hotel in Delhi.

“As all of us exited the lift at the hotel’s second floor, three men — who were guests at the hotel — passed a remark at me, saying, “How much/what’s the rate?” The complainant further wrote that the remark passed by the man shook her from within.

“I couldn’t move an inch. I was just bewildered. I couldn’t do anything. I hurried back and stopped the lift before it closed. On confronting them, I realised that they were drunk. When confronted, the three men got involved in a scuffle. Enraged over the comment, I grabbed his phone and threw it on the floor and left the place,” she wrote.

By the time Reena could regain her senses, she received a call from the hotel’s reception.

“We received a call from the reception and were asked to apologise for ‘misbehaving’ with the guests. I was amazed at how the hotel management did not question those drunk guests and their morality when they asked my ‘price.’ Instead, I was told to apologise.

According to the three miscreants, I was the one who misbehaved. But what came as a surprise was that the hotel management didn’t even attempt to enquire as to what had happened in the lift. Upon reaching the reception desk, the three men along with the hotel staff tried to tell us that we were wrong and that having ‘girls’ over at night was dubious.”

She alleged that what was even more petrifying about the night was that one of the staff members was found to be drunk during duty hours.
