New Delhi: Taking a leaf from the holy scriptures, Delhi BJP will on Thursday torch chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s effigy to see whether it survives the flames or gets burnt to prove that he has been working with good intentions for the people of the city.

In holy scriptures, Holika Dahan is performed a day before Holi to see whether demons are consumed in flames and Prahlad (son of demon king Hirankashyap) gets a new lease of life.

The political battle and blame game between the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has intensified on several issues in recent times. Since December last when the sealing drive started on the directions of Supreme Court-appointed monitoring committee, the parties are blaming each other for the traders’ sufferings.

A BJP delegation, led by its Delhi unit president Manoj Tiwari, was allegedly assaulted at the chief minister’s residence on January 30 when the saffron party went to discuss the sealing issue.

Mr Tiwari told this newspaper, as the holy scriptures have mentioned that truth survives the fire test, so the party will conduct a similar test with Mr Kejriwal. Whatever Mr Kejriwal has been saying ever since becoming the chief minister is a bundle of lies and the BJP regularly points out each of his lies. Now on the Holi occasion, we have decided to put Mr Kejriwal’s effigy to the fire test (Holika Dahan). If he is true to his soul, his effigy will survive otherwise whatever we are saying will be true,” Mr Tiwari added.

According to the plan, Mr Kejriwal’s effigy will be made of bhusi (husk) for the purpose and put to the test of fire at the Delhi BJP headquarters on Pandit Pant Marg during the party’s Holi Milan programme on Thursday afternoon.
