New Delhi: Six months after a 28-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling at his South Delhi resident, his wife was arrested for abetting his suicide, the police said on Tuesday. The accused wife, Swati (26), was produced before a metropolitan magistrate by the probe agency which remanded her to judicial custody.

According to the prosecution, Amit Kumar, a resident of South Delhi’s Munirka, allegedly committed suicide on August 22, 2015. His family informed the police regarding his suicide and a note was recovered in which he had alleged that he was taking the extreme step because of his wife.

“I am being pressurised by my wife. She only wants money from me. Mother, father, I am sorry, I have failed you,” read his suicide note that was recovered by the police.

Amit’s family lodged a case against Swati alleging that she was abetting him to commit suicide. The police said that after the post-mortem, they lodged a case under Section 306 of the IPC against Swati in August 2015.

However, she was not arrested at that time as the probe was pending against her. The police recorded the statement of the family members of the victim. They told the police that Amit got married with Swati on February 22, 2015. Since their marriage, Swati was pressurising him for money.

The police arrested Swati after completing the probe and produced her before the court seeking her judicial custody which was allowed by the court.
