Hill Palace, is Kerala’s first heritage museum and now, is the largest archaeological museum.

If you are a history enthusiast, the Hill Palace at Tripunithura, Kochi, is a perfect weekend getaway. Kerala’s first heritage museum, it is known for its royal collections of the then Maharaja of Kochi. Now, it is the largest archaeological museum in the state. The Hill Palace was built by the Maharaja of Cochin in 1865. The Palace complex, sprawls across 52 acres of land and comprise 49 structures built in Kerala’s traditional architectural style. It also has a deer park and facilities for horse riding. Besides, one could find medicinal plants in the compound.

The ethno-archaeological museum has oil paintings, murals, stone scriptures, manuscripts, inscriptions and belongings of the Kochi royal family. The museum also houses a contemporary art gallery which is open on all days except Monday from 9 am to 12.30 pm and 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm.
