Mumbai: Social activists launch 'Right to Pee' campaign for better public toilets
The campaign on social media will be followed by a signature campaign at the market before meeting civic authorities.
Public sanitation is a major issue in India even 70 years after independence and at a time when India is said to be on the road to progress. Public campaigns, government initiatives and even movies have now highlighted the issue of open defecation and people urinating in public for the lack of better adequate toilets.
Social activists came together in yet another bid to bring this issue to the notice of authorities at Crawford Market in Mumbai to demand better public toilets as part of the ‘Right to Pee’. The online campaign is aimed at to reach out to masses and raise awareness about need for better toilets in public places including the shopping hub visited by a large number of women and men everyday.
According to a leading daily the social media campaign already in action will be followed by a signature campaign at Crawford Market before the activists proceed to meet the civic authorities.
A resident of the city told the daily that she has been visiting the market every month and due to lack of access to a toilet she has had urine infection problems.
