Head held high

Delhi girl Priyanka Dewan made it big as the legal professional-cum-quaintrelle is all set to represent India as the ‘Mrs India Woman of Universe 2019’.

“As an individual, I like meeting new people and interacting with them, understanding cultures, as that helps me grow as a person. Hence, the inspiration to participate,” chirps Priyanka. The fashionista will soon be travelling to the Dominican Republic, where the pageant will take place.

She considers fashion to be a quintessential part of her existence. She says, “Honestly, the dream to participate in the pageant has been a long-cherished one, but it finally found realisation last year when I had the opportunity to participate in a beauty pageant for married women.”

She had earlier won the title of Mrs Royal India Universe International First Princess 2018.

Participating in these pageants require a lot of effort and dedication. It makes one stay away from home for long periods of time. Dewan has her own ways to juggle between family-life and her newly-found profession. She says, “My affair with fashion is deep-rooted and draws me towards pageants almost naturally. Shuttling between a hectic legal profession and your passion so that you can be part of the global affair is essentially a demanding task but I firmly believe god helps you reach where you belong.”

With a senior diploma in Hindustani classical music from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad, fashion is not Priyanka’s only love. However, when it comes to taking her voice to a professional platform she feels very differently. “I feel blessed to have the exposure to music since a very early age, to the extent that it has become an innate part of my being. It rejuvenates my soul, my very existence. It gives my life a new dimension for sure but law is my profession, my life. Maybe law is my life and music enhances the beauty of my life by the flavour it adds to it,” she says. Apart from the years that Priyanka has spent as a corporate lawyer, she has also done photoshoots for an online retail platform and print-advertisement for a reputed jewellery brand and is certainly a fashionista by choice.

Driven by her zeal for women empowerment, she’s keenly involved in various activities, the most recent being the influencer of the energy division for Womennovator, an initiative supported by Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, for providing a platform to women entrepreneurs.

A woman is considered to be the neck of a family who holds the head and connects the family members with one another. Priyanka is a living example, who is combining two professions and also living up to society’s expectations, like a pro.
