Free WiFi is a service offered by governments across Indian cities and has brought better connectivity ensuring progress in the way to a digital India. But when there is unrestricted internet access free of charge, there are some things which may be unavoidable.

Statistics from the Maharashtra state IT department showed that 30000 of the three lakh people that use free WiFi in 510 spots in Mumbai use the connectivity to browse porn. Meanwhile the number is still lower as compared to people using other connections.

Authorities told a leading daily that it’s impossible to stop this as whenever porn sites are blocked, they just come up again with new domain names, and the process is never ending. The main issue is people don’t stop porn viewing and the best option is to monitor and block sites that users try to access.

Porn addiction has been described as a major public health issue in many countries and in India a woman recently approached the apex court complaining that her husband’s porn viewing habits had ruined their marriage.
