With the weekend approaching and binge-drinking topping your agenda, it’s time to remember that it’s also accompanied by a hangover. With all your cocktails mixing up to make another one, here are a few simple, effective home remedies for hangover:

Antioxidants work wonders

Say hello to dark chocolates, berries, spinach, nuts, carrots and others containing antioxidants to ease your hangover. Research has shown that eating foods rich in antioxidants is good for your health. So, an added bonus is that you’ll probably keep heart disease at bay.

What to drink for rehydration:

Water to the rescue! Drinking water can help you pacify the effects of hangover. Alcohol calls for several urine sessions, and these result in loss of electrolytes in your body. It’s ideal to have plenty of water in between your drinks. Some people also go for rehydration powders and sports drinks to hydrate themselves. You can also go for green tea, which is rich in antioxidants and coffee to ease fatigue.

These medicines might help:

Hangovers are typically characterised by stubborn dizziness and pain. A few over-the-counter medicines can help in dealing with these hangover symptoms. For instance, aspirin can provide relief from aches. Ask for ibuprofen to treat pain, and naproxen to treat inflammation. Don’t go for medicines containing acetaminophen.

Antacids work for people feeling sick after a hangover. Take medicines with great caution, because long-term usage can result in stomach ulcers. Also, it’s not a good idea to pop these on an empty stomach, according to some doctors.

Breakfast for good energy

Good food is always a good idea. Drinking alcohol causes your blood sugar levels to drop. Get lots of protein, carbohydrates, vitamins and healthy fats to recover from your hangover. Bananas, eggs, watermelons, honey and nuts are some things you can eat to replenish your body. There’s not much evidence on whether greasy food helps in absorbing alcohol, but a lot of people go for heavy breakfasts.

According to Medical News, hangover can’t be cured, but its effects can be eased. Hangover effects depend on factors like sex, personality traits, age and even your body type. Home remedies seem to be the safest option for treating hangover.
