102-year-old Eunice Modlin believes the secret to her long life is chocolate.

Modlin, from Boonville, Indiana (US), has revealed she consumes at least two pieces of dark chocolate daily, the Daily Mail reported.

This great-great-grandmother claims a daily dose of sweetness kepps her happy and healthy.

However, not everyone is convinced that chocolate is the reason for her amazing longevity.

Some experts believe various other factors have played a role. For one thing, Modlin has never smoked or had alcohol in her life, the report revealed.

"There are so many other factors to her long life and chocolate isn't the only one," nutritionist Vanessa Rissetto told the Daily Mail. "Genes, her diet in general… are probably the main reasons."

There may be some truth in it being in her genes, as her brother is also thriving at 101 years old.

However, Rissetto does acknowledged the benefits of chocolate which has been linked to reducing risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer and diabetes.

It's is also a good source of antioxidants. However, Rissetto warns people should be mindful of the kind of chocolate they consume.

"Dark chocolate has more [flavonoids] than milk chocolate, and white chocolate - which does not actually contain chocolate - is not a good source of flavonoids," Rissetto told the Daily Mail.

So moderation is crucial for the sake of your health.
