Do you ever feel that despite eating well, hitting the gym and having said no to all the good food being offered to you, you are still putting on those extra-pounds?

We may all have our little secrets to lose weight and they usually include everything from running more, walking more to lifting weights or even eating more meals and it can be overwhelming as well. Often we feel like giving up and taking down a tub of chocolate ganache ice cream with no more care in the world.

Well, those with expertise in the hard-to-navigate field of diets and weight loss have rounded up the five mistakes you could be making that are actually making you fatter.

Morning coffee: Cannot wake up properly without your strong black Americano? Caffeine could be setting you back in your quest to become thinner. According to studies, caffine may be feeding the sweet tooth, tempting you into eating snacks you know you should avoid.

According to the research conducted by the Cornell University, caffeine can temper taste buds temporarily and make food and drink taste less sweet, making us crave more sugar.

Research also finds that two-thirds of coffee drinkers and one-third of tea drinkers put sugar, cream and flavourings in their drinks - which adds up to extra calories.

Skipping breakfast: Most of us do not like having breakfast early in the morning and we have all heard it, breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

Study says that skipping it can wreak havoc with your blood sugar levels and leave you craving something sweet mid morning, according to Alix Woods, a nutritionist at Quest Nutra Pharma.

Recent research from Sheffield Hallam University found that eating a substantial breakfast tricks the body into eating less calories for the rest of the day.

Gymming too much: Yes that is a thing. They may be a fun and easy way to stay motivated, but your exercise class could be working against you. According to experts it is because people are doing the same moves over and over and the key to weight loss when you hit the gym is variety.

Not having enough sex: Yes, you heard it right. While, you may have had a busy day, and all you can think about is crawling into bed and sleeping, but that should be no excuse for not getting down and dirty between the sheets.

Sex is a great way to burn extra calories and even helps boost your immune system.

Fruit smoothies are not so smooth: Some smoothies and fruit juices contain up to seven grams of sugar per 100ml. That's nearly a third of your recommended daily intake. Eating excessive amounts of sugar comes with an array of health risks linked to obesity. Studies have also linked excessive consumption of sugary treats to Alzheimer’s disease later in life.
