Several cases of doctors removing massive tumours and even metallic objects from people’s bodies have been reported in the past few years. But with every incident things discovered by doctors get even more bizarre.

Paediatricians in Los Angeles just found a tiny snail which was slowly growing inside an abscess on an 11-year-old’s elbow. This is the first case of its kind to be recorded in medical literature.

Doctors even let the excited boy keep the 4 mm creature identified as a chequered periwinkle marine snail. The slimy being is said to have died just a day after it was removed.

The boy was inoculated with a snail’s egg when he hurt his elbow while playing in a pool. The puss filled abscess was triggered by the egg entering his wound and hatching inside.
