Sarees are deemed to be one of the most traditional pieces of clothing. A saree has the ability to bring out the desi avatar of a modern millenial girl. This nine yards of fabric off late has been experimented with over and over. Designers have been introducing various ways of draping sarees that are full of edge and chic. The pant saree came into the limelight when Bollywood very own style diva, Sonam Kapoor wore a pastel pink embellished pant saree to the Cannes Film Festival.

People have become more fashion forward now with a eagerness to try out every trend that emerges in the fashion world. Designers Mansi Bihani says, “Although there is nothing quite like the six yards, the pant saree is undeniably a great contemporary spin on the classic style. What we love the most about this east-meets-west trend is the quirkiness and edginess it adds, while maintaining the elegance of a saree. The ease of a donning it also makes it a favourite amongst the new age fashionistas.” When a trend upgrades, fashion forward people are instantly drawn to it.

Designer Riya Kodali feels,  “There are many variations to it. Designer are experimenting with various fabric cute, patterns and styles. Although these sarees are more suited for festivals, weddings and parties, pant sarees are also going the casual way with the use of expensive linen and cotton.” Styling a pant saree can sometimes become confusing as there are so many ways one can don it. Designer Ramya Girimaji says, “My favourite way to wear this trend to pair a crisp white shirt with a pochampally or the traditional madras checked saree and cigarette pants. With the pant saree, I feel you can go either really traditional or really modern with it.”

Trends become boring, when people do not play with it. Riya adds, “Experimentation is everything with the pant sarees. Designers are experimenting with jacket style tops and skirt style outfits. Celebrities are donning uber modern tops with their pant sarees.” Fusion is one word that can be used to describe a pant saree. Keep the fusion element in mind while accessorizing it is what Designer Tanya Bhat suggests. “Avoid closed pumps rather choose strappy sandals. Accessories should be entirely Indian or western. Choose an indo-western choker to pair with your pant-saree.” Not every trend suits everyone. Some may look good while some may not. “Dhoti sarees may not look good on people who are on the heavier side. But it’s perfect for girls who are petite and slim and tall.” Flowy sarees that have softer material is best suited for this trend. Tanya adds, “Soft drapes and materials like chiffon, georgette, crepe silk go very well with this trend. Kanjeevaram and raw silk sarees can be worn by only petite people”
