Fall winter fashion can be tricky with all its layering and sculptural clothing options. But most importantly, getting your hands on the perfect shade to gel with the colder months can prove to be a tough task. But fret not, as we bring to you a comprehensive guide to rock the perfect hue from the seasonal colour palette in style. The season’s colour trends are anchored by earthy tones like warm taupe and oxblood with pops of vibrant colours like spicy mustard and lilac. And blues — not the sad kind — top the list of shades most used in designers’ fall collections.

Blue

Romancing the blues
The Blue dynasty indubitably rocks throughout Fall, playing with all its possible shades and exploring all the avenues ranging from icy blue to cobalt and navy blues. “Blue is versatile. If Riverside is more angled at stability and confidence, Airy Blue, the fall version of Serenity, takes anyone to a Xanadu of freedom, tranquility and weightlessness,” shares designer Gautam Gupta, adding, “Monochromatic outerwear or peppy versions of botanical motifs mingled with knitted sweaters will make you stand apart.”

lal

Sweet Lilac
“Bright, feminine and uplifting, lilac forms one of the most difficult colour trends, since pulling it off during all those rainy, cloudy and frosty days is somehow difficult. However, it makes a perfect colour even for the colder seasons for special occasions, when you want to stand out of the crowd with your statement-making outfit. As with all pastels, you have to find a way to give it some backbone. You can try an accent of lilac or wear it from head to toe,” shares designer Karn Malhotra.

Return of oxblood.

Return of oxblood
While there were strong representations of your traditionally autumnal navies, blacks, greys and dark greens, the colour that really stood out at various fashion shows was burgundy. Replenish your stock of this rich, orangey-brown shade as it is officially the new navy. “Previously called oxblood, it is just about everywhere. Its moody tone signifies that summer has come to an end and its appeal is much like navy — can be worn with much more than you would think. This season brings burgundy pieces in all shapes and sizes — from a luxe leather jacket and cosy sweaters to buttoned-up blouses. Don’t be afraid to step out of the norm — individualism is seriously on trend,” says designer Pria Kataria Puri.

Olive treat

Olive treat
You already know the power of fail-proof beiges, on-the-mark navys and go-to blacks but in this league of extraordinary classics, let’s introduce ourselves to perhaps the most underestimated neutral of them all — olive. “For those unfamiliar with the stylistic powers of the yellowish-green hue, it’s all about integrating olive add-ons that complement an existing outfit. The best way to introduce this hue into your wardrobe is through the utilitarian army jacket. Lightweight, timeless and appropriate for all seasons, the closet staple will keep you warm on your next flight or on a chilly movie night in the park. Olive shifts into a darker shade this season with grey undertones. So, you can wear an olive long coat, bomber jacket, sweatshirt and more. Olive combinations are best suited next to marigold as an accent or flax as a neutral,” says designer Gautam Gupta.

Spicy Mustard

Spicy Mustard
“Spicy mustard comes as one of the most vibrant fall/ winter 2016 colour trends that will add an exotic and zesty touch to any outfit,” says designer Jyoti Sachdev Iyer, adding, “Mustard is naturally hot, so cool it with beige or ivory. Match yellowy-brown cropped pants with a creamy blazer, or a tailored jumper with a khaki wraparound skirt.  Add an off-white jacket, and brighten with some bling.”
