Hollywood celebrities at the 69th Primetime Emmy Awards in California on Sunday, sparkled and dazzled with gorgeous gowns and sharp suits.

Did you notice something else?

As the event fell on the United States' (US) Constitution day, many displayed a blue ribbon on their outfit.

This represented their show of support for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), a nonprofit organisation that aims to protect and defend a person's rights guaranteed by the Constitution.

The act was a move to put pressure on US Congress to pass a Dream Act, allowing those who immigrated to the US as children to have a clean and clear path toward citizenship.

These stars showed the red carpet can about more than just making a fashion statement.
