Diwali is the time to go fashionable. It is not only that time of the year when you dress up in your festive best, but also accessorize to your heart’s content. Meha Bhargava, renowned Wedding Stylist, Image Consultant and Founder of Styl.Inc talks to this correspondent, as she shares her insights and tips for how to look trendy and beautiful this Diwali.
What do you think will be the prevalent Diwali styles this year?
The top styles this Diwali would be pairing a kurta with a palazzo and sarees or lehenga draped in different ways. These are comfortable to be in look elegant without going overboard. In these styles both embroidered and printed options are available which means that there is something for everybody.
What will be the major motifs and colours that one can see this year?
The colors currently ruling the market are majorly pastels along with some of the classic colors like shades of pink of green. Floral motifs are the thing this season. Gota patti and mirror work have taken over heavy, gaudy embroidery and make beautiful floral motifs.
What kind of a festive look should people opt for this Diwali?
For Diwali going ethnic is always the best options but that never means going over the top. Focus on keeping your look modish and elegant. Instead on heavy work opt for trendy silhouettes, accessorize yourself well and if your outfit is not too embellished then your accessories will add an extra depth. Keep your make up minimal, go for a natural or no makeup look.
In general, what kind of fabrics should one wear and what should they avoid?
The best fabric to be in during Diwali is Cotton, its super comfortable, absorbent and fire resistant, for more fitted options go for rayon. Chiffon and georgette look great but make sure you don’t go near fire or crackers if wearing these fabrics as they are prone to catch fire. Silk blends are perfect for those who like lustrous fabrics.
Also, avoid all sorts of synthetic fabrics and nylon as they will stick to your body and can catch fire easily.
Coming to accessories, what will be the trends in accessorizing this year?
Statement jewelry is a big thumbs up. Wear big jhumkis or chand balis with a statement or antique looking ring. Keep your neck bare or if you go for a statement neckpiece then keep your earring small to balance out the look.
What does fashion and style mean to you?
Fashion is more of a general thing while style is very personalized. I believe fashion is something which is trend which people blindly follow while style is your personal taste and how to reflect it in the way you dress. To be stylish doesn’t mean to wear whatever is trending it means to wear what suits you the best, in which you are comfortable and carry it with utmost poise as that’s how you look your best.
