From bold colours to loud prints on her outfits, budding designer Aditi Lal is now making statements through her intricate designs inspired by the 1950s. With the constantly changing trends, Lal’s contemporary take on that era includes designs that are fresh and known to resonate with ones personal style and compliment their silhouette. In a tete-a-tete with the bubbly designer, we dig deep to know about her influences, what inspires her creations and more…

Having a designer for a mother has definitely played an important role in steering her towards the line of fashion. “My mum has always been conscious about what she wore and as a child, I always enjoyed watching her dress up for parties — the way she accessorised, the colours she would choose, the bags and shoes she picked to complement her outfits. I always watched her with unwavering  attention,” says the 24-year-old who studied fashion at Raffles Millennium International and did several short courses from prestigious institutions like London College of Fashion. “It’s very important to be constantly inspired. That’s what drives us to create something beautiful that brings out our style that we can share with the rest of the world. Clichéd as it may be, fashion for me is about creating something exceptionally beautiful that brings out your own personal style, I believe in simplistic cuts that compliment a woman’s curves,” says Lal who looks up to couture designers like Ellie Saab and Sabyasachi who have their signature styles.

Still a budding designer trying to make her mark, Aditi does face a number of challenges. “As a young designer, I still have to put in a lot of hard work to establish myself in the market, set up a team with right-minded individuals, understand buying habits, etc. There is a lot to learn and there are a lot of ups and downs,” she smiles, adamant to set herself apart from the rest with constant support from her friends and family, who are constantly giving her feedback on her work. The chirpy designer has also caught the travel bug and loves to get out when she can! “I try to do three to four trips a year to escape and reconnect. And when I’m at it, I try my hand at photography which is something I really enjoy. I’m someone who can’t sit in one place so when I’m in the city and get time away from work, I love spending time with family, going for a swim, and getting some reading done,” she chimes in conclusion.
