Glittering outfits are back in vogue, but the key lies in striking a balance so that you don’t look like an Xmas tree.
No one word can spell glitz and glamour better than sequins, and this year the very sparkly trend is back with a bang in the form of skirts and pants. What’s better is that there are a whole spectrum of colours to choose from. Actresses like Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt and Kangana Ranaut, have time and again sported this trends. To pull it off, all it takes is guts, confidence and a whole lot of sequins!
Designer Riya Kodali is really excited that this trend is back in rage now. Riya says, “I absolutely love the return of sequins and sparkle. This trend was seen back in 2010, and now it has returned with a bang because sequins are everywhere, may it be dresses, skirts, pants, totes, clutches or heels. ‘It’s back’, and time to ‘celebrate’ the glam.”
Stylist Tanya Eldred Bhat says, “Sequin skirts or pants make a very interesting style statement and not everyone can pull them off. You need to have a sense of style to pull off this look.”
Designer Sparsha Putsidappa has a personal obsession towards all things bling, metallic colours and glitter. She adds, “From an oversized top or a sweatshirt to a denim, anything could be carried off with a sequin skirt or pant and it will look like a perfect night out wear.” Sequins already spell drama, therefore avoid more of it by keeping the rest of your outfit understated.
Designer Prachita Devi says, “Avoid fitted sequin skirts and go for something that has a A-Line cut. Since flared pants are back in vogue, pair it with a tank top. People now-a-days are open to trying out new colours so pick a sequin skirt or pant in light blue or lime green colours.” Suggesting a perfect party look, Riya adds, “Pair a skirt or pant with a sexy plunging bralette, throw a blazer on it and pair it with solid pumps, a clutch and a sleek tied hair.”
Sequin skirts or pants work well if you want to pull of a desi outfit as well. “ Sequin pants can be paired with straight kurta and dupatta to create a desi look. Also, skirts can be paired with crop tops and a choker,” suggests Riya. Sparsha feels that sequins have always been a part of desi party wear. She adds, “You could pair a sequined pant with a crop top and use a drape dupatta and you are good to go for a party. You could do the same with dhoti pants and palazzos.” With a few of these pointers, you can be the star of the party, literally!
Tanya adds, “It is very important to balance out a sequined outfit with a solid colour. Keeping the accessories to a bare minimum is necessary. Also remember to to avoid sequins on the rest of the outfit.” Going overboard with the colours can make you look jazzy. “Sequined pants or skirts can be styled in multiple ways from blazers to sweaters or hoodies to simple tops. Don’t over do with the colour of shoes and accessories.” Minimal accessories is the way forward with this trend. Prachita adds, “You can wear anything from a chunky earrings, bangles, neck pieces to even a watch.” Our stylist feel that your outfit can go from glamorous to trashy in an instant if you pick the wrong colour of sequins. “Sequins in black, gold, silver and copper are very classy!” signs off Tanya.
