Fashionistas and celebrities are now flaunting various tones of the most popular colour this year.

It’s been named ‘colour of the year’ by Pantone and has made a significant impact on the fashion world in the recent past. A plethora of international celebs have been sporting this bright and eccentric shade that has been described as a hue that communicates ‘originality, ingenuity and visionary thinking’ by Leactrice Esiseman, the executive director of the brand.

Make way for ultraviolet — a shade that has taken over the latest collections of fashion houses, celebrity closets and more. During the Milan Fashion Week, Gucci’s spring 2018 collection was showcased under an ultra violet strobe light and portrayed a variety of looks in different shades of purple, while Versace displayed 90s-inspired bodysuits and blazers. Brands like Rochas, La Perla and Loewe too have showcased the shade.

Talking about the zesty colour, Srishti Nadhani, stylist and blogger says, “Ultraviolet is a very interesting and bold colour on its own. For summers, teaming a UV mini skirt with a simple white tee would be my go-to. If you belong to the experimental clan, a pair of UV kicks is a great addition to your wardrobe for the year too. One can never really go wrong with a statement pair of Ultraviolet earrings. With a colour as bold as UV, colour blocking could be fun too. I am thinking of a colours like powder pink, emerald and yellow for a bright summery look.”

International celebs like Harry Styles, Kylie Jenner, Rihanna and even Queen Elizabeth have been spotted wearing this hue. “While a few stars like Jacqueline Fernandez and Kareena Kapoor have sported the colour of the year, I don’t think it’s still a very mainstream colour in India. And with so many trends going viral in the country, I think it’s tough to settle for just one,” opines Srishti.

With this vibrant hue being the talk of the fashion industry, Shristi Soumya, blogger/co-founder of a fashion website says, “Ultraviolet will be very easy to incorporate in our clothes and accessories mainly because the market is flooded with this beautiful hue at the moment. Also, it goes brilliantly well with icecream colors which is a huge trend of SS18. It’s soft and peaceful, but at the same time bold and unique.”

UV is being hailed as a colour of mystique, but can be rather loud for some and incorporating the shade in designs can be tricky. Fashion designer Ritu Pande, says, “Incorporating a colour like ultraviolet is a personal projection of the designer’s or the fashion house’s aesthetic. I’m someone who favours a neutral palette, so I would use it as an accent colour or as an element in a colour blocking story.

“UV is a vibrant, lovely shade, but is too overwhelming for me to be used as a main colour.”
