Couture week ends with Manish’s sensual Affair

With 85 looks, two Bollywood superstars, a set with reflective mirrored flooring, black flowers hanging overhead mimicking the decor for a cocktail reception, a front row attendance of Shweta Nanda Bachchan, Huma Qureshi, Sophie Choudry, Natasha Poonawala, and an all-black dress code implemented on the audience, designer Manish Malhotra brought the curtain down on the India Couture Week late Sunday evening.

Malhotra’s magnanimous collection “Sensual Affair” featured three-dimensional embellishments, tasselled tops, an elaborate juxtaposition of texture, feather trims, ‘90s blouse with shoulder pads, billowing skirts with embroidery art, fitted corsets and shimmering cascades, trailing capes, layered motifs in flowy silhouettes and infinite skirt trains.

A rich assortment of fabrics from satin organza, silk tulle to micro velvet, satin velvet and two-tone silks were married to antique metallic threadwork, pearls and luminous crystals. Drifting away from the traditional wedding colour palette, the gowns and lehengas introduced shades of ivory, soft grey, vintage rose, burgundy and teal.

For the men, structured sherwanis paired with fluid kurtas were seen.

The show concluded with the charming Ranveer Singh walking down the runway in a midnight blue zardozi and thread-work embroidered sherwani paired with slim pants and Alia Bhatt donning a sequined pearl embellished top with an olive 3D floral detailing multi-layered ruched net skirt. “I feel fantastic every time I work with Manish because he is like a family to me and he is just amazing and so inspiring,” Alia said.

Talking about Alia and her amazing outfit, Ranveer quickly added, “She is looking like a princess.” Manish said that he wanted to collaborate with Ranveer for the past three years and was happy that he finally could get the star to walk for him. “For me, when you think of young and different you can only think about Alia and Ranveer. They are eclectic, fabulous and talented and are just getting better day by day. I have been telling Ranveer to walk for me for the past three years.”
