What happens when you have too much wine at your disposal Well, if you have some skill with the brush, you could try painting with it. The way Serbian artist Sanja Jankovic has done in a series of artworks called “Winerelle”. She has taken the works of famous artists like Gustav Klimt, the symbolist painter and Japanese artist Hokusai and recreated them using wine as the prime material.
The collection of images offers a familiar yet an unconventional representation of famous artworks across different eras. The wine acts as paint providing the artist with a fluid style in rich maroon and pink hues. Jankovic manipulates the wine in a style that is similar to the technique of watercolour. The shading and other various colours are achieved by adding more or less water to the wine. The technique is borrowed from the Renaissance period, when painting with wine was a common practise.
