This summer, stay indoors and burn calories. City-based trainers suggest new ways to stay fit without stepping out under the sun.

While the city is preparing for the summer, the fitness regulars might not feel like working out outdoors. The heat and the dust might not be the right environment for your regular workouts. So, this year instead going out to the public parks or promenades, stay inside air conditioned rooms and try out these workshops where you can not only shed a few kilos and get those curves right, but also learn a few new skills — be it matching steps with a bhangra or pumping up with zumba. Or how about a mid-air stretch

Zumba Sucheta Pal is India’s only Zumba Education Specialist (ZES) and Master Trainer. She has single-handedly created over 2,000 jobs in India by training people to become officially licensed Zumba Fitness Instructors. “A full-body Zumba workout not only helps in cardio but also helps improve flexibility, which is ideal for all men. The spirit of Zumba fitness is to have fun, loosen yourself and allow no judgment. I want to break the age-old myth that men cannot dance. It will allow men to get some rhythm and I am sure they will ‘hear’ the music (and their fitness calling) here,” she says.

Aerial Silk I f someone wants to stay at home, I would suggest that the easiest and most fun thing to do in the summers is plug into some Bollywood music, and dance,” says Aanchal Gupta, founder of Arts In Motion. “Bollywood is all about dancing. So a good 45 minutes of dancing is more than enough. Or if you enjoy hip-hop or western commercial music, you can also work out on that. If someone is a yoga practitioner, she can do some aasans. I make it a point to do 108 suryanamaskar aasans thrice a week. In our studios apart from the regular dance and yoga workshops, we also conduct aerial silk classes, where you have to workout mid air. But above all, I would suggest a really good stretch.” Where: Arts In Motion, 39/44 T. V. The workout is a nonstop one hour session which provides overall toning, body conditioning and can build endurance, stamina and balance, in addition to burning up to 500 calories per class (depending on the individual). Every class portion is easy to follow and can be modified to the comfort level of the participant, making it accessible to all fitness levels. The workout is universal since every move involves movement of most parts of the body simultaneously that makes it not only challenging but also very intense.
