Neutralise negativity

We all encounter bad vibes from time to time.

We all encounter bad vibes from time to time. Some people are more sensitive to bad vibes than others and usually feel emotionally, psychologically and even physically drained when they are in toxic or low vibrational situations. It can be challenging to go to work, go shopping or to maintain one’s social obligations if one is sensitive to other people’s negative energy, and this can be frustrating. In times like these, you might be interested in learning how to stop bad vibes from taking over and sending you into a vibrational tailspin. Be aware though, that the very first thing you will want to do is accept your negativity. Remember that the goal here isn’t to fight negativity because that will only bring more of it into your life. Instead, it’s best to allow it to be there and accept it before you attempt to let it go. In other words, if you’re mad then be mad for a minute. Let it be okay to get out your frustration a little and release the pressure. Once you’ve accepted your negativity and find yourself ready to release it and move on, try out one of these strategies:

Gather yourself: Before entering into a situation you expect might contain low vibrational energy, first take a moment to centre yourself. If you have time, do a quick meditation, if not, at least sit down for a moment and take a few big, slow, deliberate breaths. This action will give you a little vibrational lift, so that you will be able to move through the negative energy field for a while before you become uncomfortable.

Take a break: When you find yourself in low vibrational spaces, step away frequently. There’s no sense in trying to tackle your work, do your chores or hold a conversation when you are emitting bad vibes because you’ll only get bad results. Excuse yourself to use the restroom or go outside for some fresh air. This allows you to stop the downward momentum of your energy and bring yourself back to centre. When you return, you’ll be calmer, happier and better equipped to deal with the situation at hand.

Think of something or someone you love: What are the three things or people you love most in the world Identify what they are right now and when you find yourself wanting to release negativity, pick one and spend a few minutes thinking about all of the reasons why you love them. Think about your children, and think how cute they are, the funny things they say and do and the unconditional selfless love they give you. Thinking about the things you are the most grateful and happy about in your lives can be a powerful tool when you are trying to neutralise negativity.

Protect yourself: If you believe you are about to enter a toxic situation, first take a little bit of time to protect yourself by setting and enforcing limits. You may feel pressured to listen to a negative person’s complaints but there’s a fine line between lending a compassionate ear and getting sucked into their negative emotional drama. Maintaining a level of emotional detachment is vital for keeping stress at a distance. You have the capacity to protect your vibrational energy, no matter what the circumstances. Take care of your energy, and it will take care of you.
