Dr Bhau Daji Lad Museum will be hosting a preview of a special collection of vintage photograph portraits by J.H. Thakker, founder of the iconic India Photo Studio. The collection, curated by renowned photographer Ram Rahman, provides a glimpse into the life and glory of some of Bollywood’s most iconic figures.

On what made his style unique, veteran photographer Ram Rahman says, “Thakker became known for his moody portraits of film actors of 1950s and 1960s Hindi cinema. He developed a signature style of dramatic lighting with spotlights, shadow textured backgrounds and studio props and costumes. Thakker’s portrait work is doubly significant as a fine example of the studio photography tradition in India, and also as it created the public image of the Bombay film industry in its golden period in the decade after Independence.”

The exhibition preview will be presented in the presence of yesteryear star and veteran actress Waheeda Rahman. On December 13, 6 pm, At Dr Bhau Daji Lad Museum, Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marg, Byculla (E)
