The Maharashtra Assembly suspending MLA Waris Pathan for not saying “Bharat Mata ki Jai” is ridiculous. Agreed that the slogan in question is neither communal nor against the religious tenets of Islam, but should anyone make Mr Pathan say what he doesn’t want to Those who live in south India do not chant “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” at the drop of a hat. Are we less patriotic than the members of the Sangh Parivar, the BJP and the Shiv Sena Politicians must refrain from forcefully imposing their definition of patriotism.
