Mr Trump issued an alarmist call for a “total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the US”, making it clear that he believes in throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Mr Trump’s statement will encourage white supremacist groups to vent their anger against Muslims. Mr Trump must rise above the compulsions of political posturing to become a more sensible and accommodative leader.
