Union Budget 2016-2017 is a disappointment. Pensions will be partially taxable and a tax will be levied on withdrawals from Employees’ Provident Fund and Public Provident Fund, which was totally tax-free earlier. Buying a car is costlier now. A 0.5 per cent cess on all taxable services under the Krishi Kalyan cess in a bid to benefit the farming community will be levied. This Budget has nothing for the common man. The Congress is right in terming it a “dead scud”.
