In response to the news item, Centre: Check dishonour of tricolour (August 14), I would like to state that earlier times, the tricolour was permitted to be handled only by certain people in certain identified areas with utmost respect. But now, I find it painful to note the dishonour it is being meted out at the hands of lay citizens, ever since it was allowed for flags to be hoisted on private buildings, atop houses, as miniatures in cars, etc. The National Flag is printed in different sizes and on merchandise. This undermines the flag’s sanctity. We cannot allow anything in the name of cultural appropriation.
