Subsidies put an additional burden on the economy and more often than not result in large-scale corruption, which defeats its intended purpose. Instead of resorting to populist measures, encouraging private investment, improving infrastructure, removing bottlenecks to control food inflation, lowering interest rates on loans, etc., will generate employment as well as, contribute towards inclusive growth.
