Sena shuns sense

The Shiv Sena’s fears about the Smart Cities project turning Mumbai into a “centrally governed colony” are unfounded.

The Shiv Sena’s fears about the Smart Cities project turning Mumbai into a “centrally governed colony” are unfounded. The fears stem from the fact that a “Special Purpose Vehicle Board modelled on a corporate entity is being created to manage Mumbai’s development”. One wonders what could go wrong with such an entity After all, Indian private sector’s corporate governance is much sought after. Clearly, the Shiv Sena fears that its sphere of influence, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, will lose significance once the Smart Cities project kicks in.
