With reference to your editorial Is a fair Cauvery solution so hard (Sept. 8), water conservation is the need of the hour. Conflicts are rife over division of river water between upstream and downstream be it within nations, or amongst them. By 2050, the world’s population will double and with it food and water needs will also increase. Water wars would assume certainty. Israel, with its cutting-edge agro-research, has used 12 per cent less water to grow 26 per cent more foodgrains. And it uses tailored drip irrigation projects and water conservation. Beyond naming our rivers after gods and goddesses, we have done little on water conservation and water recycling.
