This is with reference to your editorial, Wooing Pak Hindus: What’s the real reason (April 19). It’s honouring, and not wooing, the persecuted refugees (not Hindus alone but Sikhs too) of our neighbours who find India is their last resort. Our leaders conceded Partition on religious lines. Faced with the horrible facts, they assured the Hindus left behind the doors of India would always be open till the last Hindu crosses over. Ahmadis voted as Muslims in the 1946 elections and lent overwhelming support to the Muslim League. India cannot give asylum to all. Even otherwise, Tibetans, Buddhists and Muslims alike are given refuge in our land.
