Rawat’s return

After the Supreme Court barred nine rebel Congress MLAs from taking part in the floor test in the Uttarakhand Assembly, the scales were tilted heavily in favour of Harish Rawat.

After the Supreme Court barred nine rebel Congress MLAs from taking part in the floor test in the Uttarakhand Assembly, the scales were tilted heavily in favour of Harish Rawat. The support from two Bahujan Samaj Party MLAs was key to the Congress’ win, showing that Mayawati didn’t want to be seen as pro-BJP in view of the Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh in 2017. This should teach the BJP not to underestimate regional parties’ ability to upset its political planning to capture power in the states.
