This is in response to your editorial, As Rajan departs, is India the loser (June 20). It is really surprising that after Raghuram Rajan’s success in reining in inflation, which was a pro-poor and pro-middle class step, strengthening the rupee and streamlining the banking system, he was denied an extension even though all RBI governors since 1992 have been allowed a second term. Dr Rajan leaves at a time when the Indian economy is still not out of the woods and the government faces a credibility crisis vis-à-vis its GDP figures. India needs Dr Rajan to stay.
