This is in response to the editorial London chooses unity (May 8). The election of Labour leader Sadiq Khan, son of a bus driver of Pakistani origin, to the post of mayor of London shows that Britain is mature about its leaders' immigrant origins and humble beginnings. This is in stark contrast to India, which prides itself on its culture, but continues to call Sonia Gandhi a “foreigner” despite her having acquired Indian citizenship and mocks our Prime Minister for being a tea-seller during his childhood.
