Ordinance fallout

The government’s withdrawing of the ordinance protecting convicted MPs and MLAs has had a major fallout for Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav.

The government’s withdrawing of the ordinance protecting convicted MPs and MLAs has had a major fallout for Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav. Mr Yadav, who has been sentenced to five years in prison in the '950-crore fodder scam, not only lost his Lok Sabha seat, but also stands barred from contesting elections for six years. Mr Yadav was a friend and supporter of the Congress Party. One wonders if it were allies like him that the Congress was trying to protect through the ordinance route.
