Buoyed by the success in the Bihar elections, Nitish Kumar has undertaken an exercise to repeat the grand alliance formula in a few poll-bound states, and if found feasible, to replicate the model at the national level in 2019. He is being increasingly perceived as an acceptable candidate for the Prime Minister’s post. However, if the Congress also joins the grand alliance and succeeds in getting more seats than any other alliance partner, then Mr Kumar will have no option but to remain confined to his chair in Patna.
