The recent launch of India’s sixth dedicated navigation satellite, IRNSS-1F, as part of the Independent Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS) is cause for jubilation. The IRNSS is designed to provide accurate position information to users in India and the region extending up to 1,500 km from the border. This launch helps India inch closer to having its own satellite navigation system, like the US’ GPS, Russian GLONASS, the Chinese BeiDou Navigation Satellite System and the EU’s Galileo. It propels India into a higher league of scientific research and innovation.
