Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech in Kokrajhar, Assam, promised the usual development of the Northeast and its people. But it lacked any comment on the communal tensions between Muslims and Bodos in 2014. Instead of blaming former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his government for the lack of development in the Northeast, Mr Modi must ensure that minorities are not persecuted and accused of being “illegal immigrants”. Otherwise the proposed “development” in the region shall come to nought.
