Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal, exertions and jeers have not paid off. The Bihar Assembly poll result is more significant for the crushing defeat of the NDA than the sensational victory of the Grand Alliance. The heavy defeat is also attributable to the arrogance of power and the BJP’s neglect and derision of the poor. The Grand Alliance has its task cut out with an overwhelming mandate to rally the Opposition and make the Modi government walk its talk on development instead of sticking to communal bombast.
