Mixing religion with politics is a recipe for disaster. It spurs a vicious circle where politicians use religion to polarise voters and the voters, in turn, feel drawn towards a candidate belonging to their religion. In this context, vice-president M. Hamid Ansari’s call for separation of politics and religion is welcome. If religion is kept out of politics, India will be a peaceful and a prosperous country.
