Finance minister Arun Jaitley ditched the middle class by taxing withdrawals from the Employees’ Provident Fund and Personal Provident Fund while increasing service tax on most consumer goods and services. This Budget proves that the NDA is no different from the UPA — it doesn’t care for the aam aadmi but still wants a pro-poor image.
