The question whether marital rape should be treated as a criminal offence should be handled with care. While the Justice J.S. Verma Committee called for marital rape to be made an offence, a parliamentary panel has observed that if the issue of marital rape is brought under law, the entire family system will be under great stress. Marital rapes do occur but there’s a chance that the law could also be misused. If marital rape is treated as a criminal offence then there should be laws against false cases as well.
