On completing 69 years of our Independence and entering the 70th year, it is imperative that we rise above political blame-game and ideological differences to pursue a broad-based plan for national development. While the economic indicators are stable they also show there’s a lot left to improve — infant mortality rate, maternal mortality rate, gender and caste inequalities. It is alright to focus on globalised generic parameters, but that doesn’t mean we should ditch internal realities for global homogeneity. Otherwise we would be at a loss to define the idea of India.
