In a double whammy for Vijay Mallya, the Debt Recovery Tribunal has frozen the deal between him and Diageo, ordering that he cannot touch the Rs 515 crore he was to receive as part of his settlement with the world’s largest liquor company. Nobody should feel sorry for Mr Mallya. He deserves every bit of the tough treatment. Lenders of over Rs 7,800 crore have, at last, begun to demand what’s right. Thanks to the NDA government, capitalists are now feeling orphaned, though the media, especially the so-called liberal-secular sections, refuse to take note. No longer do you see crony capitalists doing deals in the corridors of power.
