After rejecting the NJAC, the Supreme Court identified four important areas for improving the collegium system. These include transparency in eligibility criterion, a mechanism to deal with complaints against candidates considered for selection and the need for a separate secretariat for the collegium. This shows that the guardians of the Constitution are themselves aware of the need for transparency in appointments and the legislature and executive should refrain from infringing the judicial independence.
