Madras high court judge N. Kirubakaran’s suggestion that child rapists be castrated has raised eyebrows. I really feel that governments and law-enforcing agencies have their hands tied when it comes to weeding out crime from society. Human rights activists decry capital punishment, chemical castration is termed barbaric and porn is protected under freedom of speech. Meanwhile, rapists and child abusers are on the prowl, undeterred by law. No excuses should be accepted against writing castration as a punishment into our penal codes.
