Chief Justice of India T.S. Thakur’s impassioned speech lamenting the lack of initiative by the executive to increase the number of judges to handle the increasing pendency of cases is an eye-opener. We often criticise the judiciary for delays in delivering justice, but we forget that the onus of resolving manpower issues and ushering in judicial reforms lies with the executive. Our judiciary is overworked. Hopefully, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay heed to this.
