Under the leadership of Archbishop of Kolkata Thomas D’Souza, a solidarity march would be conducted in the city on Monday in protest against the Ranaghat Nun rape incident. Trinamil Congress chief whip in Rajya Sabha and national spokesperson Derek O’Brien on Sunday extended his support to the rally.
“Fully endorse the solidarity rally by the Archbishop on Monday at 4.30 pm from Park Street on the barbaric incident at Ranaghat. There in spirit as Parliament on in Delhi,” Mr O’Brien tweeted.
The Trinamul Congress spokesperson termed the incident of gangrape of the septuagenarian nun “barbaric” and said the perpetrators of the crime would be brought down to book. “The incident was barbaric. I can already share that seven to eight people have been detained,” Mr O’Brien stated. He further mentioned that the state government is determined to take strict measure against those who have committed the this dastardly crime against the nun.
