Launching a blistering attack against West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, CPI(M) state secretary Surjyakanta Mishra on Sunday said she was “panic-stricken” to see the people uniting against her government and was launching threats to them to hide her panic. At the same time, Mr Mishra accused Ms Banerjee of gifting Tata Motors Nano factory to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Addressing an election rally in West Midnapore’s Chandrakona, Mr Mishra said, “Ms Banerjee is panic-stricken to see that people are uniting against the ruling party. She is launching threats to the people because she is afraid that this would lead to her downfall. Ms Banerjee is doing this because she is frightened.” The Leader of Opposition also took pot shots at Ms Banerjee following the Narada sting operation and said, “Thanda Thanda Cool Cool, Nirbachan Commission Chole Jabe, Jele Jabe Trinamul (TMC will go to jail once the Election Commission concludes the election process).” Calling upon the party workers to unite people irrespective of their political affiliation, Mr Mishra said, “Lately, her election rallies have turned into party workers’ meetings. The people no longer want to stay with her fearing that they might have to bear the brunt of their misdeeds. Even senior party leader Dinesh Trivedi said that the accused TMC leaders must not show their faces in the public. People who have stayed with her in 2011 have also deserted her.”
The CPI(M) politburo member also came down heavily upon the state government for its sheer failure to bring industries in the state. Referring to Tata Motors’ decision to move the Nano Project out of West Bengal following the land acquisition movement spearheaded by Ms Banerjee in 2008, he said. “We wanted to help set up one of the biggest steel plants in the country in West Midnapore’s Salboni. Was it a crime to bring industries here Now what has the Trinamul Congress government done for Bengal in last five years Ms Banerjee has been taking credit for our past achievements. She once drove the Tatas away from Bengal. Now she sends flowers to the Prime Minister. But the biggest gift she had given to Mr Modi was Tata’s Nano factory.”
The Tata Motors had shifted the Nano plant to Gujarat’s Sanand following the movement by the Opposition. The Leader of Opposition also alleged that there has been a tacit understanding between Mr Modi and Ms Banerjee for mutual benefits.
